What fertility care at Natura involves

Every couple's path is different, so care starts with a long first conversation. Dr. Erin Esau, ND will ask about cycles, previous pregnancies, tests you've already had and your general health, and will usually want to hear about your partner's health as well. She'll meet you where you're at and create a plan tailored to your unique health situation.

  • Preconception planning: nutrition, prenatal vitamins, sleep, alcohol and smoking, reviewed for both partners. See the preconception health checklist.
  • Cycles: irregular periods, PCOS/PMOS and other hormonal concerns. See PCOS/PMOS and naturopathic care.
  • Acupuncture: Dr. Erin Esau, ND is licensed to provide acupuncture.

Working with your fertility clinic

If you're already in treatment, bring your protocol and medication list. Dr. Erin Esau, ND will check every supplement against your treatment plan and time acupuncture around your cycle, so your care here fits your clinic's plan.

Questions

Fertility: your questions

Still unsure?

Call the front desk and we'll help you decide which appointment to book, and we can often find a place to fit you in that may not be visible in online booking.

All questions

Should my partner come to the appointment?

It's worth it. Many preconception changes, such as diet, alcohol, smoking and heat exposure, apply to both partners. Ideally you each book your own visit and come to both; each appointment is for the person who booked it.

Can I see a naturopathic doctor while doing IVF?

Yes, absolutely. Dr. Erin Esau, ND has a great working relationship with Heartland Fertility, Manitoba's fertility clinic, and has supported many patients through their IVF journeys. She reviews your protocol and medications, avoids anything that could interfere with it, and times acupuncture around your treatment.

How long before trying should I start preparing?

Ideally about three months. It takes about three months for sperm to develop (spermatogenesis) and about the same for an egg to mature, so the changes you make now are reflected in the sperm and eggs of three months from now. It's never too late to start, though.
